ABOUT ABOUT

Please join United by Blue and partners for a cleanup of Darby Creek at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge!

Nestled within Philadelphia's concrete jungle, John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge serves as an urban oasis and sanctuary protecting and preserving Darby Creek and surrounding Tinicum Marsh. Established in 1972 as America's first wildlife refuge, John Heinz NWR is home to a large variety of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and over 300 bird species including many threatened and endangered species. Darby Creek, which runs through the refuge,  plays a vital role for migrating fish and birds. Due it 's proximity to the urban world, the creek is constantly threatened by toxic storm water run- off and dumped litter. It is important that we take care of Philadelphia's rare natural world, and protect the wildlife that call this city home. Please join United by Blue to clean up Darby Creek at John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge.

United by Blue will provide all of the cleanup supplies, and all volunteers will have the chance to win United by Blue prizes. Lunch will be provided by Brother's Catering

Please be sure to wear closed toe shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting dirty or wet!

United by Blue thanks all of the partners who have made this cleanup possible:   Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, Philadelphia Water Department, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, Keep Philadelphia Beautiful, Penn Beer, Anheuser-Busch, River Network and Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry. This cleanup is a part of the national Budweiser America Made Better platform, which supports water conservation by connecting adults across the country to local watershed cleanups, particularly in connection to Made in America events like the one in Philadelphia at the end of August. Special thanks to Budget Dumpster for helping us store and haul the trash for this cleanup.
